That’s been the BIG question over here. Do we find out this baby’s gender, or should we be surprised?
Faithful readers may remember that when I was pregnant with Hudson, we opted to find out the gender. In my mind at the time there was just NO WAY I could not find out. I was an anxious and nervous mama-to-be and wanted to get the nursery decorating done…and wanted to get my shop on and buy ALL THE CUTE BABY CLOTHES. So when we found out we were having a boy during the anatomy ultrasound scan, we were super excited!
When I was pregnant with Sadie, Jon and I both decided that it would be fun to not find out the gender until the baby was born. And it was SO fun. But so hard too. Decorating the nursery and picking out baby names was tough. We went in to the delivery room with 5 boy names and 5 girl names….it was hard! But it was so exciting at the same time. You can see Sadie’s gender neutral nursery here. I love how it turned out. And you can read about how exciting it was to meet our baby GIRL here.
So with baby #3, I just assumed we would wait to find out again. But it turns out Jon had different plans. As much as we both loved being surprised, he preferred knowing in advance. And I preferred not knowing.
So….what to do???
Jon said he could find out and I could be surprised. Simple. But not really. It took a lot of resolve to not peak during that gender ultrasound scan with baby #2. And without each other I don’t think we could have done it.
Also, if you know Jon, you know there is a big problem with his idea. He will either 1. tease me to death and drive me crazy with slip ups of “it’s a boy”, or “no, it’s a girl.” Or he will 2. actually slip up. or 3. tell someone else because he can’t keep a secret. And that’s just not happening.
So…..needless to say, we are finding out the gender this time! And I’m SO excited. My ultrasound is next week and we plan to do the whole be-suprised-by-a-cake thing this time around.
So what are your guesses? I keep going back and forth….yesterday I was team girl but today I’m team boy. So we’ll see!!!
Oh how fun! We have three(two girls and a boy) we found out each time in different manners. It has always been so exciting to us to find out together and prepare for our baby's arrival. If we ever have a #4 – I am hoping to convince the husband to wait and find out at birth … But he "needs" to know so not sure that will ever happen!
Yay, I can't wait to read your gender reveal post!!!

I like that you're still having a bit of a surprise factor, with the cake! It seems like a good compromise. 🙂 Such an exciting time!
I love it! There's no way I could not find out!!
So exciting! It's a surprise regardless, so I don't think you can go wrong either way! It'd be a little easier to wait already having one of each, but still–there is no way I could wait, so I totally understand your husband's perspective! I'm going GIRL!
Excited for you guys and praying for a healthy baby. I wanted this baby (#3 as well) to be a surprise but my husband wants to find out too. Since he is so excited I figured why not, we find out on Tuesday. At the end of the day new life is always exciting so it's a win win!
How exciting!!! I so wish I could be that cool to wait and find out, but never! 😉 So excited for you!
So exciting! I think being surprised by a cake is such a fun way to do it!
Team boy! Can't wait to find out! So fun.
So fun! We have found out every time. I'm terrible with waiting. We plan on finding out with number three too. I'm 100% sure its another girl for us haha. I can't wait to see what you guys are having!
Ahh! I don't know how you didn't find out with Sadie! I just don't think I could do it. Haha! Excited y'all are going to find out though & can't wait to see your sweet announcement!
Yay for finding out!!! I could never and I was so impressed you guys stuck it out with Sadie! But I also loved when you asked for name ideas 🙂 You got some great suggestions! Ill guess girl!
You can't go wrong either way because whether you find out at the ultrasound or at birth it's still a surprise. 🙂 I couldn't wait to find out so it wasn't a choice. Ha ha
AHHH love that you're finding out!! So exciting and a reveal will make it extra special! PS…some mutual friends of ours had the same situation with their second and the husband found out the gender and his wife didn't. And he never told anyone, but she totally read into everything he said the whole pregnancy. I definitely could not do that!!
Haha, we have also struggled with this during our pregnancies – we kept it a surprise for our first two but decided to find out this time with #3 so we could just be more organised, get the siblings excited and have a different experience… And it's THREE GIRLS for us:)

soon exciting!!! we found out with Palmer and not with Charlie. I liked both for different reasons! Cant wait to find out! I think its another boy! 🙂
Ahh so fun! With our first we wanted a surprise, but with my second I needed to know! If we ever have a third we will be finding out, it was so much more fun knowing 🙂 I'm thinking boy!
Soooo exciting! We didn't find out the gender of either of my girls until they were born and I loved the surprise, but can definitely see why it'd be fun to know ahead of time! — Lisa | Naptime Chai
