One of the downsides of living where I live is that we don’t have an Ikea or Trader Joe’s close by. Two places I absolutely love. When I lived in California we had both of these stores within 20 minutes of my house. My mom used to walk to Trader Joe’s. Sigh. Woe is me right?
Now when I want to go to Ikea or Trader Joe’s it’s an all day event. Like 10 hours. At least that’s how long it took my mom and I this weekend. Two hour drive both ways plus several hours shopping. Totally worth it.
We started our Ikea shopping trip off right with a piece of chocolate cake. Too bad we ate it too fast for me to snap a picture. That two hour drive made us hungry! We came this close to finishing off our cake with a side of mac and cheese. But we resisted.
Ikea has a few amazing farm house sinks. LOVE. There was a two sided one I drooled over but the photo came out blurry. Just pretend you are seeing it here.
I also really liked these industrial lights. Plus they were only $30 each. Should have gotten them.
My mom and I both loved this cabinet/book case. She wants it for her bedroom and I want it for my dining room. It was kind of spendy, so we resisted yet again. Go us.
We did buy a good amount of stuff. But did I manage to get a picture? Guess not.
After Ikea we stopped by another favorite place…Home Goods. There are 15 Home Goods stores on the East side of Michigan. And zero on the West side, which is where I live. Someone please explain this to me. Oh, and I embarrassed my mom by making her take photos of me in crazy cat mask. It matched my outfit. Because what is a trip to Home Goods without a funny photo op? Unfortunately we didn’t spy and giant metal chickens. I would have been all over that.
Totally wanted to buy this alphabet artwork.
Our next stop was good old TJ’s.
It was super crowded. I think I’m going to write the good people of Trader Joe’s and kindly request a store closer to me. After all, look what a good shopper I am! Supporting our economy one reusable grocery bag at a time.
How was your weekend?
I have still never been to an Ikea. I know, I have no clue what is wrong with me.
Looks like a pretty fantastic weekend if you ask me!
Our Tj's just opened a few weeks ago and it makes me happy! Our closest one previous to that was like 5 hours away!! I have still never been to an Ikea.
I have that same dress! LOVE how your styled it 🙂
Sounds like an amazing weekend! And who knew ikea sold farm sinks?! I've been searching for a giant metal chicken for months…and have come up empty 🙁
We are getting a Trader Joes later this year. I will have to see what all the hype is about! 🙂
Ah we are getting an Ikea here next year, can't wait! Our house is in desperate need of renovating 🙂
Love your outfit!
I dont know how I could EVER live without a TJ's. That is definitely on my request list when we finally do move out of the city. Must be near both a TJ's an a Whole Foods. Both my favorites.
Girl I am with you! There is no TJ's, Target, Home Goods, or Ikea any where near us! So sad! 🙁 Looks like you had a great time with your mom!
3 of my favorite stores!
I love IKEA and Home Goods.
I've never been to a Trader Joe's! Wish they would put one in Texas!
OMG. I want that shelf/cabinent. I don't know where I would put it, but I loveeeeeee it too.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! Seriously my favorite 3 places!
I couldn't live without Ikea. My house is basically unofficially sponsored by them. It's kind of far though…
Sounds like a fun day!
Those are def. 3 of my favorite places. Sounds like a fun trip with your mom! She needs her pic on the blog more.
I love Ikea! I could spend hours in that shop :p
Is your dress Target?! If so, I have the same one in a diff color! I love those industrial lights so much..they are becoming so popular. That stinks these stores are so far away–but yet, good for the pocketbook! 😉
Two of my favorite stores- HomeGoods and Trader Joes. I feel like a baby now for complaining that I have to drive at least 20 minutes to get to either one now! We have an Ikea close by too, but it usually makes me angry (too crowded with dumb people) and I rarely find anything worth buying!
Where on the West side are you? I'm originally from Holland and I always thought there was a Home Goods in Grand Rapids on 28th Street (but I could be very wrong).
I'm sad for you that you don't have an Ikea or Trader Joe's close. I don't know if I could handle that. 🙂
p.s. At this very second I have the same dress on that you are wearing in the pictures. I love it!
Sounds like fun time with mom living closer by 🙂 I can't believe its two hours each way to ikea and trader joes. Sounds crazy to me.
Same stores I'd hit up! Two hours?! Ugh. Been there before and that's a big reason I moved closer to a city again. 🙂 I haven't been to IKEA in a while since it's across town, but loving those lights!! They may work in a clients room, thanks for reminding me about them!
