DIY Minnie Mouse Hair Bow

It’s no secret we love a cute hair bow in our house! Sadie has begun requesting a “pretty bow” to wear in her hair every day….and it is my favorite! When she requested a bow just like her favorite Minnie Mouse from Mickey and the Roadster Racers, I couldn’t resist!
Thankfully, making a bow is pretty easy, trust me! Here’s what you’ll need:
Fabric of your choice, tread, fabric scissors, sewing machine (or needle and thread), and some nylon headbands. You can pick headbands like these up at any craft store or make your own by cutting a strip of nude colored nylons.
First, cut your fabric in to a 4 inch by 19.5 inch piece.
Fold it in half so that the pretty side of the fabric is touching and you see only the underside of fabric. This is important because you’ll need to sew it inside out in order to hide the seam.
Next, cut the edges on a slant like shown.
Then, sew a 1/3in seam and leave a 1.5in gap unsewn in the middle like shown.
Trim the extra fabric off so that your seam looks like this.
Use the unsewn gap in the middle to reverse the fabric. You can buy a special tool to do this or just use your fingers like I did! Carefully use the edge of your scissors to push the end of the fabric all the way through to the other side.
Then, iron the fabric strip so it lays nicely. I didn’t bother to hand stitch the middle opening closed….you could, but it’s not necessary.
Next, loop your fabric through the nylon headband. You’ll want to leave a small tail (like shown) on one side.
Then tie your bow. This part took a few tries. If you mess up, re-iron your fabric and try again. You’ll have to keep working at it in order to get it tied perfectly. Secure on the headband with a drop of hot glue or a stitch…or live on the wild side like us and just leave it as is!
Isn’t it darling???? I’m so in love! If your child has enough hair, you could skip the nylon headband and instead just tie the bow. Then insert an alligator clip into the knot.
So so so cute. Sadie loves looking like Minnie, her favorite character from Mickey and the Roadster Racers!
We love watching this show on the Disney Channel! I love that it’s a show that both of my kids enjoy…..which means less fighting over the remote! We love recognizing all of our favorite characters as they race and have fun on the show.
Since Minnie wears a pink dress on Mickey and the Roadster Racers, I plan to make Sadie another pink Minnie bow to match! Any excuse to make more bows is a good one, right? We will be tuning in for the newest episode of Mickey and the Roadster Racers on Friday, August 11th at 8:30am on the Disney Channel! We love watching the morning block of Disney Junior shows on the Disney Channel and can’t wait to watch the new episodes of all of our favorites!
