Black or White?

Photobucket
It’s been a week and a half and we’ve made some big progress on our bathroom remodel! The shower is almost completely tiled.

Photobucket
The pictures really don’t do it justice…it looks so nice and so much bigger now.

Photobucket
The old ugly mirror is finally down too. Here’s where I need some advice. I keep changing my mind and can’t decide if I want the cabinets painted black or white. I originally wanted white and then switched to black because i thought it would be too much white in the bathroom. The floors are going to be gray/white marble and the counter top is gray/white speckles. We are going to put a small mirror up above each sink…either black or white depending on the cabinets. The bathroom is really small and has no window…so it gets very little light.

Photobucket
This is the photo Molly photoshoped for me so that I could see what it would all look like together. And I still love it. It’s just that every bathroom photo that I love has white cabinets and I just can’t get it out of my mind. Check out my Pinterest bathroom pins HERE.  Oh and the walls will be a pale blue-green color…that I have yet to pick out. If anyone has a color that they love, let me know! So I guess I need your thoughts….black or white? Should I go with my gut and pick white? Or try something different with black?

    hi julie,

i vote white. i know it might seem like a lot of white, but i think you'll enjoy how much bigger the white will make the room feel. also, if you get sick of white down the road, it is so much easier to paint white cupboards black than it is to paint black cupboards white. it's also easy to add punches of color through artwork, towels and accessories.

to sum this all up, it's easier to go dark than it is to go light, so start light and add color as you go.

I choose white based on your comment about how it's a small bathroom with very little light… but I'm sure it's going to look amazing either way!!

I think white, it will leave you more options in the future when it comes to repainting the walls! And heck if you don't like it, black is just one more can, but it is easier to cover white than black!

Agree with everyone. I would paint it white first, since that is kind of what you are thinking. It will def. it light and airy.

I say white! and if you don't like it, it would be easier to paint black over them than try to paint white over black cabinets. It looks so good! Can't wait to see the final result! Great job!!!

Honestly – I don't think you could go wrong. They would both look so good.

If you like the white, then I say go white. The gray in the marble will pop well, and the room is going to look so clean, crisp and calming.

I can't wait to see the final result!!

Originally I think I said black. And I think if it was me I would still go black but I think you should go with your gut! If you originally wanted white, then go with it – you can always repaint later 😉

Can't wait to see it finished!

I do feel bad for you having to make all these decisions, though. It would take me YEARS to decide.

I think you can make it work either way, but the popular choice looks like white and I agree it will open the room and make it look very fresh and bright. You can pick a fun accent color if you want color.

The bathroom is looking good. I think if it were me I would pick the black, but if you are leaning towards the white..it's probably a better choice! 🙂

I think both would look great and you really cannot go wrong. However, I would choose white because I would just love a clean, crisp white bathroom or kitchen. Good luck with your choice – it's going to come out beautiful!

I definitely understand home decorating dilemmas like this one! First, I love the shower! Personally, I don't think you could ever have too much white in a bathroom so no worries about that. But just go with whatever you like, it's your room! Can't wait to see it!

If you are saying that the bathroom is small and you want it to be light and open. Then I would go with the white. Good luck with it all 🙂

I think both would look great. I would want black really badly but probably be too afraid and pick white 🙂 and be happy with it.

Question–what color grout are you going to use in your subway tile? We're retiling our shower after tiles started falling from the wall and I've decided on a white subway…just curious what you're planning! Thanks 🙂

Thanks for getting back to me re: grout! Sadly, no samples where we shopped but I appreciate your input. Your bathroom is going to look great!
