Best Vacation Ever….Maui Part 1

Well folks I’m finally back! We have a new MacBook computer and I finally had time to install my photo editing software and upload photos from our wonderful trip to Maui. If anyone is thinking about going to Maui….do it. We had tons of fun, ate great food, and were surrounded by beautiful scenery….what more could you ask for? If you ever need any recommendations about where to stay, what to do, or where to eat, let me know!

We first traveled to California for Erin’s wedding. (I’ll be posting some more photos from the wedding soon). We’ve always wanted to go to Maui but were worried about the extremely long flight from Michigan. The husband is really tall and it is hard for him to be comfortable in those cramped airplanes. So it worked out perfectly that we could make a stop in California first. Our flight left for Maui on Monday morning….and unfortunately on Sunday night I got really really sick. I had horrible stomach cramps, a fever, and chills. Monday morning I wasn’t much better and almost started crying when we got to the airport because I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to make it through the flight. I think I prayed the entire time we were checking in and going through security. Luckily we ended up having a row on the plane to ourselves and I was able to stretch out and sleep for most of the 5 hour flight. When we landed in Maui I was feeling a lot better.
First thing we did was pick up our car for the trip….a Jeep of course! The husband was really excited.
We checked in to the Westin…which was gorgeous. They had a beautiful atrium with flamingos, fish, and swans.
The swans were so pretty…and hungry.
Oh and there were parrots too!
After checking in we headed down the beach for a snack and a drink.
Well, the husband had a drink and I just posed with his. Still not feeling that great in this photo.
The first day we basically just took it easy and walked around on the beach. Our hotel was right on the water and really close to several restaurants…score! Isn’t the water so beautiful?
We saw some people jumping into the water. So scary!
When we got back to our room there was champagne and a card waiting for us…so nice!
On our second day in Maui we went on a zipline tour! It was so fun…probably my favorite activity of the trip. All of these photos were taken on my iphone because I didn’t want to lug my big Nikon around.

 Ready to zip!

The husband getting briefed on the zip.

There he goes!

My turn!

There were eight lines total with a break halfway through for lunch. The first line was scary but after that it was easy! And so fun!

Me with the fanny pack they gave me to hold my phone. Totally awesome.

So pretty! On the last zip the instructor picked me up and threw me down the line…..I screamed but it was still so fun. I want to go again!

During the zipline we asked the local instructors what restaurants they recommended…and the first one they mentioned was Aloha Mixed Plate….so that’s exactly where we went when we finished zipping.

The Lava Flow…so pretty.

The husband with his pretty drink…a mai tai.

After dinner our waiter recommend this awesome dessert….banana cheesecake stuffed into a fried tortilla and then dipped in cinnamon and sugar. Amazing!

After dinner we walked down to the beach to watch the sunset.

Stay tuned for more Maui fun in part two….

Love the sunsets! Absolutely cannot believe you had a row to yourself on the plane. I can't remember the last time I was on a flight that wasn't oversold.

It looks peaceful… I'd kill for that right now!
