A little Christmas decorating

 photo IMG_4042.jpg
Our Christmas tree is up! Our Christmas tree is up! It’s a small miracle.

 photo IMG_4105.jpg
Hudson “helped” of course. And by “help” I  mean he took down ever single ornament that was within his reach. So needless to say our tree is naked on the bottom. He’ll be a great helper when it’s time to take down the tree I’m sure.
 photo IMG_4049.jpg
He loves pointing to his favorite ornaments. So far he loves my husband’s childhood winnie the pooh ornament and this one from his first Christmas. He has good taste.
 photo IMG_4060.jpg
This little hand print from last year is one of my favs.
 photo IMG_4062.jpg
Thanks to Hudson spreading joy and Christmas cheer around the house (literally) we’ve cut back big time on decorations. Our house still feels festive just the same. I decorated our dining room buffet with my favorite mercury glass trees which are thankfully out of reach from tiny little hands!
I’m still waiting for our Christmas card for this year to arrive…..I keep one of each of our past cards and am trying to think of a cute way to display them all this year.  Here’s what I did two years ago…..
This obviously can’t happen in our house this year because Hudson would be ALL OVER it. Once I come up with something I’ll be sure to share!
 photo IMG_4081.jpg
Moving on….here’s our family room mantel. Am I the only one who has to decorate around a big TV? It’s really cramping my style! And Hudson LOVES petting the reindeer on his stocking. I’m actually really surprised it hasn’t been taken down and worn as a hat yet. But we still have a few more weeks to go, so I’ll keep you posted.

 photo IMG_3944.jpg
Hudson has his own little tree in the family room too. He is obsessed with it!

photo IMG_4074.jpgWe line up all his little buddies under the tree. The bear, girl reindeer, and penguin were mine growing up and it’s so fun to watch Hudson love them just as much as I did.
photo IMG_4079.jpgAnd of course we busted out our little people nativity set! Hudson got it as a Christmas present last year even though he was way too little to enjoy it. I knew he would love it this year!

 photo IMG_4090.jpg
And no Christmas display is complete without Christmas books! This is our little collection so far (minus a few that have managed to go missing already and some that we do not want Hudson to damage)….I’m hoping to grow it big time this season so that next year we can read a different book each day of December. So what books are we missing? What are your favorite Christmas books for kids?

P.S. Don’t forget about the Christmas Holly Jolly Pajama Party I’m co-hosting next week! Link up right here on Tuesday, December 10th! It’s the perfect excuse to show of your little one in their Christmas jammies!

Love the decorations and I absolutely love the idea of reading a different Christmas book each day of December! I'm going to have to get a few more books before next year πŸ™‚

Everything looks so amazing, but your treeeeeeeeee….oh my word, it's perfect!!!!

Also, I too have to decorate around a tv on my mantel. Ugh. It really limits what you can do!

I too, have the same problem with decorating around a large TV – the only place for us to put it in our home is above the fireplace mantle as well so GRRR. But you've given me some great ideas on how to decorate it! Your home is beautiful!! Merry Chirstmas!!

I love your dining room hutch! I've got a question about your stockings- what are you using to keep them up? I had my heavy stocking holders on our mantle but had to take them down today since our little miss suddenly was very interested in the stockings and I'm worried she'll bring down the holder with it. Are you using command hooks?

Your decor so far looks gorgeous – love, love, love Hudson's little tree. So cute! I can imagine how challenging it must be to try to set it all out in creative ways to keep sticky little hands off it. I will be right there with you this time next year. Since Caleb is only 6 months old right now, I don't have to worry too much about our decorations:) I would also love to figure out something creative and fun to do with Christmas cards. Maybe I'll just start a new album and put a card in it every year so one day we'll have a big book of Christmas cards from over the years. Who knows…Sometimes it's stressful trying to keep up with photos and cards. I always have a long list of photos that need to be printed but then can't figure out how to display them!!!

No Room for a Little One would be a great one to add to Hudson's Christmas book collection. We love that one and can't wait to read it to Caleb!

Looking forward to the pj link-up party next week:)

Love all your decor! I too have a massive TV taking over my mantle, but I've made do. Luckily Liam has kept his little hands off almost all my decorations so I consider that a huge success! I'm also looking for a way to display our old Christmas cards, so let me know what you come up with!

I remember when my son was that age and that was the year we put the big baby gate around it so he couldn't get to it. We only used it that year after his first Christmas so he should be good next year πŸ˜‰

Our tree was starting to get bare too because JJ was obsessed with seeing his reflection in the glass balls. He's gotten used to it now since it's been up since after Halloween.

I love it all!! Decorating with little ones (and around big TVs) is no joke, but you've managed to make it look amazing! I framed one of our Christmas cards last year and thought I was being ridiculous, so I am happy to see that I'm not the only one. πŸ™‚

I had that same (girl) reindeer growing up! We had several different ones, too. So of course I had to read closely and sure enough, you had saved them from your childhood, too!

I love your idea to read a Christmas book each day. I'm sure we have enough to do that, and if not, we can repeat our favorites, which we do anyway! My toddler's favorite (and mine!) is "Merry Christmas, Ollie!" by Olivier Dunrea. We love all of his gosling books!

It all looks great, Julie…I just love Hudson's little mini tree! And the Little People nativity scene is a HUGE hit at our house right now too…Arden carries it around like a boom box and presses the angel down over and over again to hear the music πŸ™‚

Love your Christmas dΓ©cor!!! I like how you put the nativity scene on the floor. We might have to try that. Right now, ours is on a side table. Well, not really, half of it is on the table the other half scattered on the floor below. πŸ™‚
