We are on day 9123 of snow days! But really it’s only the third snow day in a row. And we had maybe 2? snow days a week or so ago. I can’t even remember. So it’s not that bad. But dang, snow days at home with all three kids are crazy! So today I thought I’d give you a glimpse in to what it looks around here behind the scenes of our snow day. Warning: it’s not terribly exciting.
We are under a winter weather advisory and it’s 5 degrees (or less!) outside. So while I usually let the kids venture outside to play in the snow, I had to keep them inside on Tuesday (this day I am documenting) and will do the same thing again today (Wednesday). Which means I have to find ways to keep them busy inside….and also manage to not loose my mind.
Thankfully we are in a pretty good place where all three can play together without too much whining and complaining. Most of the time. I love it when they wear matching pjs….but Sadie needed a change of pants immediately after waking up. I’ll leave the reason up to your imagination. And yes. We stayed in our pjs ALL DAY.
Somehow while the kids ate breakfast and played, I managed to have a cup of coffee in peace! Yay! I love snow day mornings when no one is bored yet and everyone is still excited to be home from school!
I caught Hudson and Sadie using my phone Instagram story filters to make themselves in to puppies and kitties and what not….and I still can’t get over how cute they were with their intertwined legs.
My heart could explode!
We pretty much just played all morning. Belle loves to push her shopping cart around and carry her phone and her doctor’s kit. Sometimes she talks on the phone and it’s pretty much the best ever. I love watching her play.
My kitchen looked like this all day. The hardest thing about a snow day is keeping up with all the activities and toys and dishes that get used throughout the day. It’s exhausting! This was right after feeding the kids lunch…which no one but Belle actually ate.
Belle usually naps from 12-1:30, so while she was asleep I tried to get a little work done…but this is what happened every time I attempted to sit in my office.
Then we had some quiet time. Hudson played his favorite game and Sadie watched a show on TV. I am not above a little screen time on days like these!
Once Belle was up, we played some more and made another mess in another room of the house. Really riveting stuff, huh?
The kids wanted to wear these masks and were being so cute! They are growling and roaring at me in the photo, in case you can’t tell. I try to post to Instagram Monday-Friday, so this was the perfect shot to include over there. Yay!
After a snack, it was back to some more play time.
Hudson was driving me nuts begging to go outside…so I finally gave in and bundled him up and we watched him from the window. He lasted about 10 minutes before declaring it too cold!
While I worked on the dishes and made dinner, these three had a dance party. I can’t get enough of them. There were a few little fights and bad attitudes today, but overall they played so well together. We also played this game for a while…it’s so fun and I love that the whole family can play together.
When I was just about to loose my mind, I sent the kids next door to make cupcakes with my mom. Having her so close really is a lifesaver (see my mom’s side of the house here!).
After cupcakes we had dinner (yeah, dessert came first….rules go out the door on snow days!) and then I put all three of the kids in the shower because they were a mess! Once Jon got home we read books together, played some more, and then put everyone to bed. Sadie actually fell asleep on the couch she was so exhausted….that’s how I felt at the end of the day too!
So that was our snow day! Wish me luck as we have another snow day today and it’s way too cold to go anywhere!
