Happy Friday! Let’s start the weekend off with a bang! I’m linking up with my favorites for 5 on Friday…and you should too!
{one} Official prep for Hudson’s 1st birthday has begun! We’ve decided to have a small family party instead of a big bash. And I’m torn. Part of me is excited to keep it low key. And part of me is sad that we aren’t having a big party. Even though we are keeping it small, I still have to decorate right? I bought this mini bow-tie garland from a Aidie’s Hideaway flash sale (follow on Instagram at shopaidieshideaway) and can’t wait to use it as part of the decor!
{two} I’ve been using Benefit’s Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer for about two weeks now and it is officially my new favorite product! It’s super light and helps my makeup last longer. Yay!
{three} We have a graham cracker monster on our hands. Hudson refused to eat anything else last night. Wexcept black beans. Because apparently those two things go together. Is he a chef in the making? I think not.
{four} How much water do you drink? It has come to my attention that I drink at least DOUBLE the amount of a normal person. How is that possible? The trainer at the gym told me I would look leaner if I cut back. Say what? I thought water was, you know, good for you? I googled “how much water is too much”…and that wasn’t a good idea. Dr. Google is scary. And convinced me I had all sorts of things wrong with me, mainly that I am diabetic. Which I’m totally not. I think I figured it out though….breasfeeding makes you crazy thirsty. I don’t drink anything but water. No coffee, soda, or juice. Also, I’ve had a sore throat on and off since December (thank you daycare germs!) and one of the things that helps is to drink water. So yeah. I’m blaming Hudson for my extra “water weight.” Anybody else a water hog like me?
{five} I’m totally a teenage girl at heart. From TV shows to reading material, I just can’t get enough. I read Divergent before I was pregnant and loved it so much! Last week I picked up the 2nd book in the series, Insurgent, and it seemed….familiar. Total deja vu. And then I realized what had happened. I’ve ALREADY READ THIS BOOK. I swear, being a mom has made me a complete spaz. So now I have to wait until book 3 comes out in October. Have you read this series? It’s SO good!
That bow tie garland is so cute. We had a semi big bash for Avery's birthday and I do not regret it. It was so much fun celebrating our girl with lots of friends and family!
I have tried so hard this week to get into Divergent. Like, really hard. Just can't do it. So bummed!
Yes, that garland is adorable….. ahhhh! I want it [for no reason it at all… ha!].
As far as first birthday parties go, I'm torn. We had a huge blow out first bday for Jackson and I did in fact love every single thing about it. But, in hindsight, it was a whole lot of money (it adds up so fast) and we were busy the entire time…. chatting with friends, making sure everything was going smoothly / food was restocked, etc. I say keep it low-key this year like you've planned and just love on that sweet boy all day!!! Then in a few years when he knows what's going on, have a big party!
And I have never heard of drinking too much water [so not a problem for me… I need to drink more!]. Good for you though – way easier to just cut back a little!
Hope you guys have a great weekend!
Can't blame the kid for living graham crackers! Everyone has been raving about this benefit primer, maybe I will give it a try. The polka dotted packaging is adorable!
Hey found you through the link up.
I love the garland. We had a big party for my daughter when she turned one, and I honestly wish we hadn't. There were so many people it was overwhelming for her, and I feel she would have had more fun if it was just a few of us.
As far as water, I have been told half an oz for every pound you weigh. I drank significantly more than that the entire time I was breastfeeding though. It really does require you to drink extra. Don't let Dr Google scare ya ๐
1) I'm gonna have to try that primer. I'm intrigued! Do you use it all over? I honestly don't know much about primer for such a product-whore.
2) I would slap my trainer.
3) I think, especially when you're breastfeeding, your body probably does "hold onto" water a little more than someone who isn't breastfeeding. Isn't that the body's survival mechanism – keeping some in reserve in case you were suddenly stranded without water?
Makes total sense to me. It's like I'm days away from getting my PhD. Or not.
That garland is absolute perfection!! And water for a nursing mama is totally the best thing?! I'm betting this trainer doesn't have babes AND has never trained a nursing mom!
Looooove divergent! Excited for the movie and the last book! Black beans and graham cracker sound normal to me!
Our little guy is OBSESSED with graham crackers as well!! I love that they take a bit for him to eat and fill him up – but it leaves me sweeping the floor 1-2 times a day!!!
Happy Friday!
I am such a little teenage need at heart too and have totally gotten into the Divergent series! I'm actually pretty excited for the movie. Guilty pleasure!
I am a water-aholic, too! My throat stays so dry if I'm not constantly drinking. I've already been through 24 ounces this morning, haha! I, too, feel like I hold on to alotttt of water. So frustrating!
I pove that garland, too cute! And too much water!? I have never heard of someone having to cut back on water!
I'm also a huge fan of that primer … it is crazy how well it works, even in summer heat!
stop it! I love your blog! The plaid bowtie garland!??! Perfect! I am just starting to think about my little guy's 1st birthday (he is 6months). And I noticed that red high chair in the background… too cute!
I am a total water hog like you! I drink a ton of water and I love my Camelbak water bottle. Also remember that summertime heat can also add some water weight! My body always hold on to more in the summer time. Which obviously stinks since it's swim suit season and all ๐
haha what?! how much water is too much, then?? & I LOVE the name Hudson. One of my favs:)) New follower!
I just got that primer last week and not only do I love it, I have never received this many compliments on my makeup before…
I also wonder if I'm drinking too much water..may have to track!
I am also a water fanatic, it's one of the things that stuck with me from my pregnancy lol! I've been looking for a new primer so I will def check out the one you suggested!! ๐
I love that bowtie garland!! And how funny about drinking too much water!? Who knew!?
I wish I drank MORE water! I'm always so thirsty by the afternoon when I realize I've only had coffee all day!
The bow tie garland is SO cute! I think you def still need to do some decor for the party! It's so fun, so why not?!
Max also loves black beans and graham crackers. Weird combo, but he will eat those all day every day.
Small and low-key parties are often some of the best. But of course decorating is always a must ๐ I'm a TOTAL water hog!
Bahahaha! I did the same thing with a book a few months ago. I actually read almost half the book before realizing I'd already read it. Doh! Mommy brain in no joke.
Love the bow tie garland. You're going to be so happy you did a small party. Any size party is a lot of work and who better to celebrate with than those closest to him.
My daughter's 1st bday is coming up in a few months and I'm definitely obsessing over it even though it's going to be a small family party too! As momma's, we want our little ones to feel celebrated!
Love the bow tie garland-thinking I need it for a friend's baby shower! ๐
I drink a TON of water too, and am calling BS on your trainer's comment. I am also a nursing momma. I don't know how you could look slimmer, you are itty bitty! I read on a blog that dairy products will make you bloated, so I cut out yogurt and milk and it has made a huge difference! I feel a lot better too because there isn't the heavy stomach feeling. Don't worry, those people who don't drink as much water and going to have bad skin, keep drinking!
love that garland! and i have read the series! i am waiting for the 3rd one to come out! and they are making a movie too!
LOVE the bow tie garland! How precious is that?!?
Was totally hooked on Divergent and patiently waiting until October too!
It's ridiculous how silly it made me to see the divergent cover in this post. I loved that book! I love my teenage fiction too (haha), and I think I liked Divergent even better than hunger games. AND insurgent. I liked how much braver and stronger of a character she was in book two. Fun fun!
I keep hearing how good the Benefit primer is. I need to check it out. That's crazy your trainer told you you would be leaner if you drank less water?! I've never heard that. But I do know too much water could make your potassium and other electrolytes low. Do you remember that radio contest a few years ago where people had to drink water nonstop for hours and whoever held their pee the longest one? And someone died because their electrolytes were out of whack!
That bow-tie garland is DARLING! Small or not, I'm sure that party is going to be fabulous!
Deja-vu readingโฆhilarious!!! Glad I'm not the only one with mush for a brain after baby! ๐
My husband has Camelback water bottles like those and loves them.
That's one of the big things about breastfeeding that sticks out in my memory – the never ending "I could drink an entire swimming pool" thirst that plagued me all the time! You're not alone with being thirsty while nursing!
I just finished Insurgent yesterday. I can't wait for the third book and the movie!
Love the bow tie and that sure is a handsome young man there.

How have I never visited your blog before? You and your little man are the cutest! I have a little girl who will be one in October and I'm also starting to think about he party…it's so overwhelming to even think about! I'm also a BFing mama and I love how you have a whole section devoted to it on here. I will definitely be back to read more ๐
Ok, I have seen that primer popping up everywhere lately, and I'm now convinced that I MUST try it. I also happen to LOVE the Divergent books and I'm way too excited about the third book coming out this fall. They are just so good! Can't wait to see more of the upcoming birthday party for your little one!
LOVED Divergent and Insurgent!! I am so excited for the movies! =)
Okay, now I'm popping back over here to say that I think I got my teenage fiction confused! I did read Divergent and LOVED it, but I think I was referencing Delirium in my comment. I think?? I'm not even entirely sure, but at least I know you understand mushy mommy brain! haha. Sorry!
Last thing, if you haven't already, you should totally read the Delirium series!!
I love that bow-tie garment and I can't believe your little one is going to be 1! I remember reading your pregnancy posts! Time flies.
