That Oz Movie…

Over the weekend my super sweet sister-in-law babysat Hudson so that my husband could take me to a movie! I haven’t been to a movie in….I don’t even know how long! Probably  7 or 8 months….and I LOVE going to the movies, so I was excited! We saw that Oz movie…shoot what’s the official title? Let me go look it up……Oz the Great and Powerful. The Wizard of Oz is probably one of my top five favorite movies of all time. I grew up watching it and will always stop to watch it if it is on TV. I just LOVE it. I’ve been so out of the loop lately (you can thank Hudson for that!) so I didn’t even know they were making this movie until a few weeks before it came out.
Naturally I had to see it. I had zero expectations going in and knew nothing about the movie other than it was about Oz. Sold. Doesn’t take much to talk me in to a movie these days!
So….it was good. It wasn’t amazing. I liked that it started off in Kansas and in black and white, just like the original film. And I appreciated the little Wizard of Oz hints throughout. But James Franco as the wizard wasn’t my favorite. I would have liked to see someone like a younger version of Robert Downey Jr. in the role. I did love that it wasn’t super clear from the poster which witch was which. (ha!) My guess as to the Wicked Witch of the West’s identity was correct, although the movie tries to suggest it could be any of the three. I won’t spoil it for you though! I feel like the three witches could have been a little better, especially because they are all great actresses. One thing I will say is that Michelle Williams looked beautiful as Glinda. I’ve never really thought she was pretty before but she was gorgeous in this movie.
Finley the flying monkey was my favorite. Totally worth seeing just for him alone.
Have you seen Oz yet?

With a classic like Wizard of Oz, I feel like it's hard for any remake/spin-off type movie to come close…but I'll probably still go see it 🙂 Also, I think I already commented this before but I just love your new blog design, it's so cute! xoxo

I really enjoyed it! I thought the development of the characters and the theme of finding yourself was "great and powerful" hehe.

I haven't seen it yet, but I probably will get around to it! It's always a little hard to watch a new version of something when you already love the old version, but sometimes you can love them both!
