Happy 2014! It seems so crazy to write that, don’t you think? 2013 was good to us, but I’m excited for what the new year has in store for our family…..and for you all too!
I’m not big on resolutions, but I do have a few small goals for the new year. My mom bought me this A Thought a Day 5 year journal and I am so excited to use it! You just write one little moment or thought each day, which is a great way to record the cute little things Hudson does or says, so that I don’t forget them. Each day has a spot for the next 5 years so I’m sure it will be so fun to go back and look at the same day each year and remember what happened. My goal this year is to fill it out every day….so I’ve placed it right next to my bed so there will be no excuse! This journal would make a wonderful gift for a new mom!
My one other goal is to clean and fully organize one room of the house each month. I’m so sick of things piling up…we have a big house and are not using our storage the way that we should…..so that will change in 2014! I’m giving myself November and December off (because let’s be real, there is no way I’ll have time those months) and I’m not putting the basement on my list because we are thinking about getting it finished this year, so that’s a whole project in and of itself! Hopefully by writing it on here it will help keep me accountable!
January: Kitchen and pantry
February: Laundry room and mud room
March: Master bathroom and hallway closet
April: Master closet
May: Upstairs and downstairs closets
June: Guest room
July: Guest bathroom
July: Guest bathroom
August: 2nd guest room
September: Family room
October: Hudson’s room
What are your goals for the new year?
Love that journal! What a cute idea! I desperately need to de-clutter and organize too, I may just need to copy you. Happy 2014!
I need to go through each of our rooms in our house, too. When we moved a year ago we just kinda put stuff places. Time to really think about how I want to design/set up each room since this is our forever home. Love the journal!
This is a great list! I need to do the same thing.
totally do-able. and totally an awesome goal!! cheers to 2014!
I love how you broke it down month by month! Makes things so much easier. When I was trying to work on organizing my house (we're currently moving) I printed a blank calendar and tackled one small project at a time. It would be like Monday: Junk drawer. Tuesday: utensil drawer ect soo much easier to get things done and so satisfying to check off!
This is a great and attainable goal! I love how realistic you are too with not putting anything in November and December! Ha! I've got a few goals I want to get back on track with this year or things I want to make happen– gotta get that out there to keep me accountable! Happy New Year!
I love that "Thought a Day" journal. So perfect for recording memories! I need to look into that!:)
Getting organized is totally on my "to-do" list this year too! Doing one room per month is so much more practical then doing it all at once, which is what I normally try to do and get no where…thanks for the tip 🙂
That is an AWESOME idea about organizing your house!!! Good luck! 🙂 Maybe you'll motivate me to organize things! HAHA!
And I think I might need that journal! SO CUTE!
That is such a great idea to organize 1 room a month! I started a journal last night for daily gratitude. That way on the not-so-great days I can look back & remember what all I do have & to be thankful for!
Love the journal, might need to snag one up! (Also, that pillow. I love and debated on getting it at Target for the longest. I'm hoping I can find one because after seeing this… I NEED IT!)
I started my home declutter yesterday. It looks great, even though I miss the Christmas stuff. I just may set a realistic monthly goal, great idea!
I also have a similar one and have been writing in it almost every day for the last 6 months. I keep it on my night stand and if I have nothing to write… I'll write about the weather or what I ate! 🙂
That journal is a great idea for a new mom! I have two friends that are expecting and I have been looking for something to get them.
I hear you on the organization, we are hopefully moving this year and I don't want to take all of our junk along with us, lol!
I love that journal! That's such a cute idea. I'm with you on needing to organization our house. I don't know why stuff always piles up. I feel like I try to get rid of stuff fairly frequently.
Love your journal and what a great idea!! I should try something like that too. It would be so fun to look back next year when you are writing new things. Good luck with your monthly cleaning plans!! Our house isn't huge so we are actually spending a whole week every 3 months to completely clean everything and purge the stuff we don't need. I am hoping it really keeps the clutter down and we can enjoy our house more often.
Happy New Year!!!
Love your organizing plan! I'm really going to try and declutter/organize/trash/donate a lot of things this year. Our closets are a particular challenge…
I have a journal like that and just started my 2nd year writing in it. There were days I'd forget but I always remembered to do it at least weekly. I want to do more thoughts this year instead of summarizing the days. I have a photo album that already does that 😉
That's a good idea to focus on a room per month rather than all at one time. I would love that journal. It would make a great gift for a new mom. Thanks for the idea!
What a great goal for each month!I might have to tackle this project as well. 🙂
I totally understand the need to declutter our house too! what a great idea to spread it out like you did. I may have to work on John to get him on board but I love the plan! Also where did your mom get that thought a day book? There are so many little things to capture I think it's such a neat idea!
Happy 2014! I started the Thought a Day journal on my 30th birthday and am halfway through my second year. I love seeing what I was doing exactly a year ago. If it is a tough day I write about it, but it has really changed my outlook on those days where I feel like nothing happened because it forces me to find something good from that day.
I also love how you divided up organizing your home. Makes it so much easier to reach the goal.
This year I am going to really try and live in the moment! I recently married my sweet husband on September 28, 2013 and really love spending time with him. We are one of the only ones in our group of friends married so it's hard to relate all the time. Not like I am feeling pressured to start a family yet, it is one of the things I am looking forward to the most. For the time being, I really want to enjoy the time we have with just eachother. Travel. Stay out late. Do what we want when we want to do it. So I plan to make 2014 count by living in the moment!

Great plans! I think breaking it down like that is such a great idea! And that journal is awesome! How fun will it be to look back on in 5 years! I think I need one! Happy Friday, Julie!
LOVE the idea of a Thought A Day. Makes it seem so much less overwhelming than vowing to write an entire entry, etc.
Good luck on your room by room deep clean/organize project. Ohmygosh I bet it will feel great after you finish each space. Something so zen about a clean home…could be the not tripping over baby toys thing.
