I’ve Got a Secret

So…I’ve been keeping a little secret from all of you. We are building a house! And we’ve already started! Because we don’t have enough going on already…let’s add a major project, right?

I’m finally coming out of the fog of new baby + new house decisions + current house showings….which means I finally get to share our big news. Here’s little Sadie on our land just before they broke ground. Yep….this California girl is going to be living in the woods. It’s a big change for me but I’m so excited!

My husband and Hudson at the “big giant hole.” As you can imagine, this process is basically Hudson’s dream come true.

Dirt + trucks = Hudson is the happiest boy EVER.

So far they’ve put in the foundation for the house, the basement, and have started working on the first floor.

I’ve picked out every single fixture, appliance, flooring, and hardware in the house already….so all that’s left is to decide on paint colors! Well, and for the guys to actually build the house. But still. Making ALL THE DECISIONS (plus getting our current house ready to sell and dealing with showings too) just weeks after having a baby was no joke….but it’s done and I can’t wait to see it all come together. I’ll be blogging about the process for anyone who is interested. Once we get some walls up I’ll be sure to share a little tour with you all!

If you have any questions please let me know…I’ll try to include the answers in an upcoming post. I’m nosy and love these kind of details from other bloggers…but I have no clue what you all want to know, so be sure to ask! Also, we are moving out of our current house next week. Yikes. Send prayers. And wine.

Congratulations! I have to say, I am SO jealous! It's my dream to build our own house and pick every single tiny thing for it. I wouldn't even know where to start on finding any of the information out, so I can't WAIT for your info post! Questions… I have TONS! Mostly financial if you don't mind. Just wondering how you even go about buying the land, and then getting the loan to build the house, while owning a house, and how do you figure out if you can afford it all at once? I'm assuming there's some person that will hold my hand through this and walk me through it, maybe?!

Wow! How exciting! And how brave of you to be building a house and selling yours just after having a baby. I've done it before with one baby, and it was no joke. I can only imagine doing that with a toddler and a new baby! Hopefully your move goes well and you all are able to see your house soon. Can't wait to see the progress that is made on your home and the house once it's finished. We've been talking about building a house in the somewhat near future, so I'm all about you sharing the fun [and some maybe not so fun] details about building a house.

Holy COW this is exciting news! And super interesting to me, as we have been thinking about building for a few months. Except for every 20 minutes when I have a heart attack and decide we can't afford it. LOVE the lot, it's so gorgeous and I'm way jealous!! Can't wait to read more!

So exciting!! Are you moving far from where you are now? When are you set to be able to move in (I always wonder how these things are timed when winter is in the mix)? And, what is one thing in the new house that you are most excited about?

It really is true when they say the days are long It really is true when they say the days are long but the years are short. One day I’m struggling to carry two babies at a time while wrangling a toddler and then next minute they are all off to school and practices and friends’ houses. With all three kids in school we’ve been thinking a lot about their futures and how we are going to one day pay for college. We set up a Michigan Education Trust 529 plan for each of our kids when they were babies and I am SO happy we did! With a MET account, we can pay for future college tuition at today’s prices. With MET’s discounted age-based pricing the earlier you start, the more you are able to save! Plus grandparents and other loved ones can contribute to my kids’ accounts too! With MET you get back what you put in if your child chooses a different path and the money goes with you if your child goes to school out of state. You can even transfer it to immediate family members and all contributions to MET plans are tax deductible! To learn more about how to set up a MET account and the benefits of starting your child’s account early, check out my stories or the link in my bio. @mieducationtrust #sponsored #SETwithMET #MI529 #collegesavings #METSept2023
