I’m not one for resolutions…

I don’t make resolutions. I have trouble sticking with them and it’s just too hard during this busy season of my life. Instead, I’ve decided to focus on two things. 1) Organize and 2) Be Still.

I’m a strange bird…I can go from being the most organized mom on the planet to being the most chaotic in a matter of minutes. But this year we are moving to a new house and the goal is to organize that bad boy so that it suits our needs. No more clutter. No more junk. No more clothes and shoes I haven’t worn in years. It all has to go. I also need to start utilizing my planner more. I bought a new pretty one and need to put it to good use. Things get out of control when I’m not organized so I really need to work on this!

Also, I need to try to remember to be still. To me that means: reading my bible, writing in my journal, learning to ignore the mess, and just enjoying my children. They only have one childhood and it’s just flying by way too fast. Hudson and Sadie are my legacy and they are all that really matters. All the extra can go.
What are you focusing on this year?

Great goals! I never thought I'd need to purge and organize so much after only living in a new house for 18 months! So I totally feel you on being super organized to not at all very quickly! I've decided it's because I just need to own (and buy) less! I felt like going from an apartment to a house made me feel like I could buy a ton because we had so much more space… I guess not!

Love your goals! We just moved into a new house 5 days ago and I have been determined to be organized and put things in their place here, so it starts off on the right track. It's tough to not just shove stuff places to get them out of sight, but I'm progressing. Ha ha! I have a new EC planner too and so ready to get started using it more this year. 🙂 Any special ways you plan to use yours? I am always looking for better ways to utilize mine.

I love this! These are 2 things I am trying for this year too. We have too much stuff, and I just want to simplify.

I totally hear you on the organized to chaotic in 60 seconds. It is so weird to me that I am able to have everything in its place and all is set then I just get anxious or something and stuff is everywhere and my thoughts are all jumbled. I also got a new planner and I am trying to stick to using it every day-we will see how that goes haha!

    Happy 2016!

Yes, yes, yes. Exactly all of this. Organization, purging, more silence and stillness. These are all things I need too. We'd love to move into a new home in a year or two and just the thought of packing up all our crap is enough to give me a panic attack. I need to make a dent in it this year and hopefully free up some space and make it all not seem so overwhelming.

Haha— yes to both! Though if I'm being totally honest, I can only be still after the house is clean 😉

I just wrote to Sara that there is a book called the Magic art of tidying up that is supposed to be amazing at helping reduce. I'm hoping to read it soon but it sounds perfect for you when it comes time to move. Why is getting rid of stuff so difficult?

I'm right there with you! I've been doing a lot of purging over the last few weeks and it's feels AMAZING! Cannot wait to see your new house and all the other wonderful things that 2016 brings you!

I love that you referred to your children as your legacy.. that really resonated with me. Lately I've been feeling like I haven't been doing enough with Scarlett (mind you I am recovering still) but even before that I felt like I'm not doing enough adventurous things with her… one of my goals this year is to create a more magical childhood for her, even if it's something as simple as a fun pinterest activity 🙂

I don't do resolutions for the same reason! I like that your goals are attainable, and thats also why I like having a word, simple to remember! Amen to our babies being our legacies!!!

Those are some great goals! I'm focusing on achieving balance this year. Balancing my time between everything is still one of my biggest struggles!

These are amazing goals!! I particularly love the idea of being more organized. There are SO many things just sitting in our closets and storage that are taking up space, have no rhyme or reason, and simply are cluttering our home.

    Happy 2016!!

Those are all awesome goals! I bought an Erin Condren planner too! I am trying to make sure to use it everyday to keep me focused on my goals: fitness, blog, and obviously the kids. I find it so hard to always be present with them (often times, I am wondering what is going on on social media…) So working on all of those things! And yes, to getting more organized! I am in the midst of trying to organize and streamline our life to make things easier day-to-day.

Yep! Amen to all that. I know exactly what you mean about being an organizer one minute then in complete chaos the next minute. Story of my life. Maybe that's why all of my planners are half full. Lol. My big thing this year is to simplify, focus on the main things and make the main things the main thing. I forgot to do that in a lot areas of my life last year, and it showed. Now this year is about getting back to basics with God and family always being numero uno. And now this comment has turned into a blog post. 😉 Happy 2016, friend! Can't wait to see what this year brings you!

It really is true when they say the days are long It really is true when they say the days are long but the years are short. One day I’m struggling to carry two babies at a time while wrangling a toddler and then next minute they are all off to school and practices and friends’ houses. With all three kids in school we’ve been thinking a lot about their futures and how we are going to one day pay for college. We set up a Michigan Education Trust 529 plan for each of our kids when they were babies and I am SO happy we did! With a MET account, we can pay for future college tuition at today’s prices. With MET’s discounted age-based pricing the earlier you start, the more you are able to save! Plus grandparents and other loved ones can contribute to my kids’ accounts too! With MET you get back what you put in if your child chooses a different path and the money goes with you if your child goes to school out of state. You can even transfer it to immediate family members and all contributions to MET plans are tax deductible! To learn more about how to set up a MET account and the benefits of starting your child’s account early, check out my stories or the link in my bio. @mieducationtrust #sponsored #SETwithMET #MI529 #collegesavings #METSept2023
