How I Manage Kid Sick Days

This post has been sponsored by Mucinex®. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

As a busy mom of three, if one child gets sick—it has a domino effect on our entire family. Today, I’m teaming up with Mucinex® Junior Cold and Flu Caplets and Mucinex® Junior Cough and Congestion Caplets to share how we manage a sick day in our house! Learn more about Mucinex® Junior Caplets here.

*Use as directed

When one of my children is sick, I feel pulled in so many different directions. I want to give the sick child 100% of my time and attention but with three kids, that’s just not realistic. Thankfully, my kids are pretty good at leaving their sick sibling alone and understanding they might need mama the most. I frequently have to juggle a sick kid and healthy kids, all while still managing our day-to-day life and activities. It can be a bit overwhelming. Thankfully, my kids are rarely really sick! But since Hudson is in 1st grade full time, he brings home all kinds of crazy germs and sicknesses.

After some trial and error, I finally discovered my favorite go-to products for combating a kid’s cough and congestion. Mucinex® Junior Cough and Congestion Caplets are a pediatrician-recommended over-the-counter solution for children ages 6 and up. When Hudson is feeling lousy, I love that Mucinex® Junior Caplets can give him the relief that he needs—all in a junior-sized swallowable caplet. When used as directed, Mucinex® Junior Cough and Congestion Caplets can relieve chest congestion, break up mucus, relieve a stuffy nose, and control a cough.

My favorite thing about sick days are the cuddles. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely HATE seeing one of my kids sick. But it brings my mama heart so much joy to get to be the one to snuggle them and cuddle up on the couch with them. Side note: this privilege is not lost on me. It is a gift that I get to cuddle with them. And it is a gift that I work from home so I can cuddle with them. I know not everyone is in this same situation. And if you aren’t, just know that I’m sending all my love your way. Being a mama is hard. I’ve been a working mom who couldn’t take off of work to stay home with a sick child, and that feeling is the absolute worst. So if that’s you, please, please know that you are doing your best and that’s what matters.

*Use as directed

As much as I’d love to spend the day just cuddling on the couch, that’s just not how my children operate. Usually when they have a cough or congestion, they need to take it easy but still need activities to keep them occupied throughout the day. We try and lay low when we are sick but still manage to sneak in some fun, too. Our favorite “sick day” activities include baking cookies, painting, slime making, coloring, building with blocks, watching movies, and reading lots and lots of books.

There’s nothing better than seeing your child’s smile start to return! I love it when Hudson starts to feel a little more like himself. Once he’s feeling a bit better, I don’t have to worry about missing out on my other children’s activities because I can carry his medicine with me on the go without any mess! Each pre-measured caplet ensures I give him the right dose every time. Plus it is designed in a junior size for kids, so Hudson has no issues taking it!

There’s a smile. I love being his mama.

I’ve found that when it comes to dealing with colds and flu, it’s best to just set aside your to-do list and try not to think about all the things you have to do or need to do and just hold your child. Spend time with them. Cater to their needs. This won’t last. Before you know it, they will be right back to their old selves and driving you crazy once again. This hard time will pass and once you adjust your mindset about it, it’s so much easier to manage the chaos. It’s a privilege to care for a sick child. They just want their mama. Be sure to click here to learn more about Mucinex® Junior Cold and Flu Caplets and Mucinex® Junior Cough and Congestion Caplets.

I’ll have to try this! It’s so hard with more than one kid. Especially when the oldest gets sick but the littles still need attention!

I love Mucinex! I’d prefer to never have sick kids, but I guess that’s an unrealistic expectation. Lol. Having medicine that does what it’s supposed to is the next best thing.
