Cat Proof?

I’m still working on our family room update. I’m still waiting for Pottery Barn to deliver some pillows and a cute throw blanket. I also need to get the husband to help me hang a new window treatment and I need to buy a shelf to display some pictures. So much to do!

In the meantime I’m working on ways to cat proof our new furniture. Henry likes to scratch on the end of our couch. And yes, our cats still have their claws. I don’t believe cats should be de-clawed, so that is not an option in this house. So far Henry has scratched a few spots on our white living room couch…..but it wasn’t an expensive piece and it’s not too noticeable, so I haven’t really worried about it. However, this time around we decided to invest in a new Pottery Barn sectional couch…and I don’t want it to get ruined!

My solution?

 Aluminum foil and painter’s tape, of course.

So far it’s worked really well! They hate the foil and it is training them to stay away. This is by no means a long term solution….because it’s SO ugly! So I need help blog friends….any suggestions to keep the cats from scratching? They do have a cat scratcher that I try to get them to use….any other ideas?

    get the nail tip covers on their claws from the vet! Works great and they do not have to be declawed.

    Naughty naught kitties!! We don't have that problem so I don't have a good solution. But keep that furniture looking good– love it!

    My brother has 4 cats and he uses soft paws. They go over the nail and just grow out when the kitties nail grows.

    Oh my gosh this post had me cracking up because I KNOW ALL TOO WELL what you are facing!! We are making the switch to Leather at Christmas and I am so worried they are going to pick at it!

    Let me know if you find a good solution, until then we're trying foil too! (My mom has tried "skkkat" I think it's called. It's a container of air that you can buy from petsmart that is motion activated, so when they get to close air will shoot out and scare them! It worked for her!)

    this post made me laugh! our two little kitties love to scratch too…but we bought one of those monstrosities otherwise known as a scratching post. it's done the trick for us. we don't believe in de-clawing either…

    great idea though–can't wait to see the pottery barn sectional 🙂 🙂 🙂 xoxo {av}

    Jake says to rub catnip on the scratching post to encourage them to like it. Also, get a spray bottle and fill with water. When they go to scratch, spray them. (that part isn't helpful though for when you aren't home).

    one of my best friends has THREE cats that scratch the EFF out of everything. Best thing she ever did was get those nail tip cover things from their vet had the vet put them one and presto! problem solved! It doesn't hurt them, they don't even really know they have them on. Since you don't believe in declawing this is totally your solution!

    Love that picture of Wrigley, he is so confused about the tin foil but it makes perfect sense to me.

Gentle. That’s the word I’ve chosen for 2021. Gentle. That’s the word I’ve chosen for 2021. Gentle with my children. Gentle with my family. Gentle with myself. Gentle with those who believe differently than I do. Couldn’t we all use a little more gentleness? After 8 years of raising babies and a crazy 2020 it’s what my mind, body, and soul needs. And my kids and family need it from me too. Have you chosen a word for 2021? If so, let me know what it is! (and thank you @bluegrassred for the word inspo! I heard her talk about it a few times on @pantsuitpolitics and I couldn’t get it out of my head. Exactly what I need for this year!)
