Body After Baby

 photo DSC_0291.jpg
Confession: it’s been almost 9 months since I had Hudson and my body still isn’t back to where I would like it to be. It took 9 months to put the weight on so I gave myself 9 months to take it off. Well…..I wish it were that easy. I gained about 27 pounds….but only 7 of those pounds were baby!

Here I am this morning…almost 39 weeks later (and in desperate need of a hair cut and style). I’m happy to say I’ve mostly lost all of my baby weight, thanks to breastfeeding and walking! I haven’t stepped on the scale in a while but I can tell there is still a little weight hanging on. I’m going to go ahead and give myself 4 pounds of wiggle room due to breastfeeding (2 pounds per boob, right? ha!). But just because the weight is off it doesn’t mean I am back to normal. My shirt is hiding a lot….and because I want to keep it real around here I’m going to be brave and show you my post-baby pooch.

I’m keeping it real here folks. I’ve got some major toning to do. And though it might not look bad in this photo (thank you work bathroom mirror! You are very forgiving!) trust me, no one wants to see me in a bikini any time soon. There is a good inch in front and on each side that needs to go.

So new moms out there….what did you do to tone up?
I have maybe 15-30 minutes max to dedicate to this each day….any tips would be appreciated! I’m hoping this post will keep me accountable and do something about that pooch!

Someone who has inspired me to get back in shape is Tamara! I find so much encouragement from her blog!

Hi everyone! I am Tamara and I blog over at The Workout Mama. I am a wife to a firefighter and mama to my soon to be 12 month old son Caden. He turns 1 this Friday! I can not even begin to grasp the idea that this little person has been in my life for a year. I love him so much and my life has never been better.
When I am not in wife and mommy mode you can find me personal training clients or teaching yoga and bootcamp classes. I love encouraging others in their fitness and healthy lifestyle journey. I recently posted a playground workout for all you mama’s who frequent the park with your little ones.

The blogging world is still very new to me and I am loving getting to meet other bloggers! It is so fun! While blogging can be a great way to connect with others it also opens you up to receive both positive and critical comments. I don’t believe in criticizing any one’s body and responded to the negative comments I have received in my post The Problem with Body Bashing.

I would love for you to stop over and visit my blog The Workout Mama. You can find me on bloglovin, tweet with me on twitter @theworkoutmama, or say hi on Facebook.

Julie, I think you look great!!!

Your post just made me realize that Graham turned 9 months 2 days ago. And I'm still holding on to 11 pounds that won't come off!

You look awesome! I'd trade pooches with you anyday! I'm 9 months post baby and still am holding on to some lbs. The pooch is where it all sits so on the days that I over indulge I look faintly pg. Gah!

I agree! You look great however I also understand the whole feeling great in your skin. Currently I need to tone as well. I lost all of the weight but I just feel different. SO hopefully we can both tone up and feel great about wearing a bikini this summer 🙂

I totally know how you feel. I'm actually like 12 pounds less than before pregnancy (my son is 1) but my stomach is not how it used to be! I can thank breastfeeding and having a fussy baby for helping me never sit down and lose so much weight. Time to tone up my belly. You look great!

I don't have any advice for a baby pooch since I don't have children, but I can honestly say you are just stunning. Your "pooch" seems to be barely there, but I'm sure it must be bothersome and you'd like for it to just go away. I'll just say these few tips for general fitness: work out consistently including light weights AND cardio, drink LOTS of water, and watch what you eat — always have healthy snacks around!

Julie you look FANTASTIC! I would never guess you have a baby less than a year old–or a baby at all– you look so great! You must have some great eating habits too! Being thin can't be done with exercise alone, right? I should really take my own advice 😉

And thanks for introducing us to Tamara! I am excited to check out her blog!

I think you look amazing!! I haven't had a baby and definitely need to do some major toning myself. Thanks for introducing us to Tamara!

I don't have children, Julie, but for toning, I swear by Jillian Michaels' 30 day Shred. There are 3 different workouts. Each one is 17 minutes…20 if you do the cool down, and the only equipment you need are light weights and a mat or your living room rug if you're me. Try it! Everyone I know who has done it really sees results!

I wish I only had one inch of pooch! I seriously need to get motivated to lose the rest of this weight!

You look fabulous! I have also been doing the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and saw awesome results and felt great while doing it! My Nora only takes 2 thirty minute naps a day, so something that's under thirty minutes is a must for me, too! Good luck!
