Beadboard for My Birthday

Happy Monday everyone! I’m in a good mood this morning because it’s my birthday week! Yay! As an early birthday present, my husband and mom got together and put beadboard on the sides of my kitchen island. As you may know, we are in the process of hiring someone to paint our cabinets white…and beadboard on the island is something I’ve been wanting for forever. So my husband and mom spent several hours on Sunday doing this for me…..have I mentioned my love language is acts of service? I was SO excited about this project!

Photobucket
Here is our kitchen before. Don’t get me wrong, we have a beautiful kitchen. But the cabinets and cabinet hardware are not my style. And everything is so…..tan and brown. We need to brighten things up a bit!

Photobucket
There is the island pre-makeover. I tried to clean up for this photo….but obviously forgot to move the cat food in the bottom left corner further out of the way….oops!

Photobucket
First up they removed the old molding around the island….with hopes to re-use it. Then we all went to Home Depot to buy the beadboard. Did you know they will cut it for you for free? Make sure you tell them the dimensions at least 20 times….at least that’s what we had to do to make the guy understand. It was stressing me out. And of course he was ever so slightly off….which made for more work for my mom and husband. They had to bust out a mini saw to fix the problem….but I forgot to snap a photo.

Photobucket
After they fixed the sizing they used liquid nails to secure the beadboard. And added some weights propped up against it while it dried.

Photobucket
Or you could just use your feet, too. Whatever works!

Sophie supervised from above, as usual.

We had to go back to Home Depot once more for new bottom molding, since the beadboard made the island slightly bigger. Luckily the corner trim still worked. They secured the trim with small finishing nails that will be puttied and covered with white paint….eventually.

Photobucket
And here it is! That corner trim will be painted white to match. And we’ll put in a new white electrical socket too.

I love it and couldn’t be happier with my birthday present!

I love how this turned out! Happy birthday week too! I would love any info you have on cabinet painting and average price quotes? We are debating getting this done or most likely doing it ourselves – would love any info!
